Rhoss Profile

Established in 1968, Rhoss is one of Italy's largest manufacturers of water chillers ranging in capacities from 5kW to 2100kW, and associated airside equipment.

The company is located in Friuli Venezia Giulia, one of the three north-eastern regions considered the 'silicon valley' of Italian air conditioning.

Rhoss' facilities cover an area of 46,000 m² with 1,000m² devoted to its R&D laboratory, one of the biggest test facilities in Europe. The company employs more than 300 people and is the largest air conditionaing manufacturing company in Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Originally a boiler manufacturer, Rhoss switched production to chillers and air conditioning products in 1973 and built a solid reputation at home and abroad through its ability to supply high quality products at short notice to meet both large orders and individual installers' needs. Rhoss' success in the air conditioning sector resulted in rapid growth in the 1990s, followed by its acquisition by the  giant Italian heating and air conditioning group IRSAP in 2000.

Following Rhoss' acquisition, the IRSAP Group launched an aggressive sales and marketing strategy which resulted in significant increase in export sales. As part of this strategy, in December 2002 the Coolmation Group secured an agreement with Rhoss to become its exclusive distributor for the UK.

Since the acquisition, the IRSAP Group have invested heavily in Rhoss' product development, including new quality and production control procedures and extensions to production areas. Most notably was the completion in 2003 of a new 1000m² R&D Laboratory at a cost in excess of 1.5million euros.

This facility is one of only two in Europe with the capability to performance test water chillers at their full capacity up to 1500kW. Following its completion, the laboratory was officially certified by Eurovent and due to its unique features, Eurovent agreed that certification tests can be conducted within it. Shortly after, the company itself was awarded Eurovent Certification.

IRSAP Group's development as a whole has resulted in a steady increase, with 1200 employees in 2006 the Group reached a consolidated €160m. A significant part of the IRSAP Group, Rhoss divides its core business into four operative sections:

  • Unit system: for production of fan coil and terminal units
  • Micro system: assembling of chillers/heat pumps from 5-60kW for comfort residential and light commercial and industrial applications
  • Macro system: for production of chillers and heat pumps with cooling capacities up to 2100kW, for comfort and industrial process applications;
  • CTA: for production of air handling units up to 150,000 m3 per hour.

In 2008 Rhoss manufactured approximately 80,000 fan coils, 6,600 chillers and heat pumps and almost 2,000 air handling units, with a total turnover of about €64m of which 50% derives from export sales.
